Packing Tips for Your Oklahoma City Move
Packing well is what makes unpacking bearable. These are the habits our crews see make the biggest difference on move day.
Label boxes by room, not just contents
Write the destination room on the top and at least one side of every box. When the crew is carrying in, they read the side of the box — not the top. Room labels are what keep boxes out of the wrong bedroom.
Pack fragile items with padding on every side
Wrap dishes individually, stand plates on edge rather than stacked flat, and fill every gap with paper or towels. Nothing should move when you gently shake the box. Mark it fragile on all four sides.
Keep essentials separate
Pack one box or suitcase you keep with you: medications, chargers, toiletries, a change of clothes, bedding, basic tools, and paperwork. That box makes the first night in a new home manageable.
Take photos of electronics before unplugging
Snap a photo of the cable layout behind the TV, desk, and router. Bag the cables and tape them to the device they belong to. Reassembly becomes a five-minute job instead of a puzzle.
Do not overload boxes
Heavy items go in small boxes and light items go in large ones. Books in a large box will break the box, your back, or both. Aim for something one person can lift comfortably.
Use what you already own
Towels, blankets, and clothing are free padding. Fill suitcases and laundry baskets first — they are already designed to carry weight.
Pack a hardware bag for furniture
Bolts, brackets, and hardware go into labeled zip bags taped to the underside of the furniture they belong to. Nothing slows a move-in down like a missing bed bolt.
Leave dresser drawers loaded — sometimes
Light clothing can stay in drawers for a short local move, which saves boxes. Empty anything heavy or breakable so the piece stays safe to carry.
